Recently, we worked with a large delivery company who suspected their drivers were deliberately corrupting the in-built tracking monitors on the company vehicles and spending time ‘off job’. We worked with the organisation to monitor the drivers in question and we brought in an independent HR consultant to work alongside us and the client to make sure that our investigatory actions were lawfully compliant.
Overtime we came to discover drivers were purposefully damaging the tracking devices across a number of vehicles to suggest that there was a larger issue with the ‘brand’ of tracking device itself. What they were actually doing was driving ‘off-route’ and meeting at a service station some miles out where they would convene together as a group and spend long periods of time in service eateries and smoking outside.
We reported our findings back to our client with photographic and video evidence and worked alongside the HR consultant to interview each of the drivers in line with the company’s own in-house disciplinary policies and procedures.
